señor
   Used before a personal name, señor is the Spanish equivalent of ‘Mr’, but señor is frequently used alone as a term of address, where its meaning is closer to ‘sir’. The word derives from Latin seniorem, ‘older person’. It is found frequently in novels which include Spanish speakers, such as the Mexicans in Steinbeck’s To a God Unknown. The plural señores also occurs.
